Hello, I’m John Peterson. I'm the part-time youth leader at Calvary Free Lutheran Church, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to teach the youth about what Jesus Christ has done for them and the hope that they can have in him. I’m from Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and after High School I decided to go to the Free Lutheran Bible College. I went to this college for two years, and in those two years I have learned a lot, but still want to know more. Also at the college, I had the opportunity to be on a Summer Team, which is a team that travels around the USA and teaches VBS for ten weeks during the summer. I got to do this two times, and during that time at FLBC and as a part of the Summer Teams, I learned that I really enjoyed hanging out with youth and kids. After that, I really wanted to be able to do something related to youth or kid ministry. Then I started praying about where God would lead me to do this. God led me to Fosston through my brother, and now I’m thankful for being able to teach the Youth at Calvary.

I was raised in a Christian home since the age of seven. At about the same time, my family became part of the church family at Green Lake Lutheran (AFLC) in Spicer, MN. As to education, I received a Graduate in Bible from the Free Lutheran Bible College in Minneapolis, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Moorhead State University, and then a Graduate in Theology from the Free Lutheran Bible College in Minneapolis. I did my internship while attending seminary at Elim Lutheran in Lake Stevens, WA, which was an extremely rewarding experience. I was ordained in the AFLC in 1993. I have served congregations in Dexter, MN; Badger & Greenbush, MN; Ottawa, IL; and Erskine, MN. In the last 15 years, I have had the privilege of being the full-time pastor at Calvary. My wife Lisa and have been married for 30 years and have three grown sons: Brady, Kyle (Marli), and Aaron (Rachel).
