approval of the building and finance plans there was a special service on the new grounds in August 2009 giving the building project to the Lord.  It was with great joy and thanksgiving that we had our first service in the new church on May 2, 2010. We now had a new building that met so many areas of need we did not have before.

We are still a small congregation in the eyes of many, but I can thankfully say we are a growing church family that spans a variety of age groups.  I find myself many times standing in amazement at the work God does in spite of me and through His people! I am so blessed to be the pastor of a wonderful church family.

As to my background I was baptized into God’s saving grace as an infant and had the opportunity to make that faith my own at the age of eight years old. There have been numerous times I have rededicated my life to Jesus realizing my sin, God’s forgiveness and His strength to walk in obedience. I remember having a significant heart change when I was at a youth convention at the age of nineteen. Through a series of events and soul searching the Lord directed me to seminary and as a result I graduated from the Free Lutheran Seminary (AFLTS) in Minneapolis, MN in 1993. I was ordained at that time receiving a call into parish ministry. I have served congregations in Badger and Greenbush, MN, and in Ottawa, IL.  I am married to my wonderful wife Lisa who is my partner in ministry. We have three sons – Brady, who just graduated college, and Kyle and Aaron who are attending college currently.

If you come to Calvary you will find that we have a blended worship service where our praise and worship includes contemporary songs as well as the richness of the hymns. We have a nursery ministry during worship for those children in preschool. Our Sunday school includes classes for all ages from preschool through adults. We have active women’s and men’s ministries. We also teach God’s Word through small group Bible studies, confirmation instruction and Released Time classes.  We are privileged to have a thriving weekly youth ministry that has been such a blessing to our congregation.

Calvary is affiliated with the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations (AFLC) headquartered in Minneapolis. We are not part of a synod but a denomination of about 300 churches. The AFLC holds to the inerrancy of God’s Word. The AFLC has its own seminary (AFLTS) and two year college level Bible school (AFLBS) in Minneapolis.

Coming up in 2015 Calvary will be celebrating fifty years as a congregation. God has showered His mercy, grace and blessings on Calvary over the years. You are invited to come and check us out and we will be blessed to have you attend.

Fall 2014

Hi, my name is Alan Arneson and my wife Lisa and I and our three sons have the privilege of living in the Fosston community where the prairie meets the pines.  I have been the pastor here at Calvary now for ten years and what a joy it has been to see the hand of God at work through the body of Christ.

We were a smaller congregation ten years ago but that did not minimize the desire to grow in God’s Word, the ongoing faithful service of many, and the ever present and growing facility needs of the congregation.  I can thankfully say that through evaluation, prayer and unity of spirit the church began an official Capital Campaign in May 2007.  Through the funds pledged and raised, previous designated funds and the sale of our old church and a portion of the property the fifty percent goal needed to go forward to build the new church was achieved.  After unanimous
